Villa Grove, population 342, is one of the towns in the San Luis Valley just south of Salida. The valley's claim to fame is potato farming, the gateway to the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness area, and marijuana growing. Villa Grove has been nicknamed the Silicon Valley of Marijuana. Formerly one of the poorest counties in the state, the San Luis Valley residents are benefiting from the mushrooming growing industries.
The Sangre de Cristo Wilderness soars up directly west of Villa Grove on Hayden Pass road access. Hike, take a trip with an outfitter, hunt, fish and more in one of the biggest wilderness areas in the United States.
